Medicine wheel

MEANING and PURPOSE

My intention of Spirit Junction was to create a place that all spiritual paths would feel welcome and expand, so I wasn't too surprised when In 2005 I felt compelled to build the Feather Drum Medicine Wheel.  

Being unfamiliar with Medicine Wheels, I consulted the below links and books for instructions and guidance. I would direct your attention to them for more in-depth explanation and uses, however here is an excerpt from the Native American Medicine Wheel website:

"The Native American Medicine Wheel was used for various spiritual and ritual purposes, especially for healing almost any illness. Since it was believed that illness sprang from spiritual imbalance, the focus of the healing was on treating the source of the problem, not the symptoms. As the medicine wheel focuses on balance of all things, it was thought this balance would help the spiritual imbalance in the person who was sick."

The creation of this wheel was inspired by "Dancing With The Wheel" by Sun Bear. In his book I discovered there is a reverence and order in building a Medicine Wheel which honors the Wheel, the Land and those who Inspired the Wheel.  Sun Bear's website encapsulates all that I had wanted to create myself, so without need to, forgive the pun...  Below I have provided actual pictures of the stones in my wheel, along with their corresponding number and name, to help with further understanding and to allow the recreation of the experience some of you may of had while “in” the wheel at Spirit Junction. Peaceful Journeys...

I would love for you to share your experience with me.  It is my belief that we never walk the “wheel of life” alone.  All questions, quests and answers that seem to be for one, is for the Whole.  The answer that seemed to be for you, a seemingly separate being, becomes Holy Whole in the sharing of it with your brothers and sisters.  As we sit with the insight and guidance from within while walking the wheel and allow it to integrate to the center of our being, we discover the answers were never “outside ourselves”, in the wheel, in the labyrinth or in someone other;  the answers and guidance we seek, is “ALWAYS WITHIN”.  As we use the things, symbols, tools of the world to find deeper meaning and understanding, our need for, attachment to and dependence on them lessens and the enJOYment of them increases.
